The thirst project
The thirst project is a group of high school and college students that raise awareness of and come up with solutions to the clean water crisis. This organization was started the summer of 2007, when a college student saw a photo graph and became aware of how serious the water crisis has become. He gathered up some the most prominent individuals. The problems they are aiming to solve are to stop spreading diseases which are caused by consuming dirty water. The solution to the problem would be to raise awareness and money in order to reach water that already exists in the aquifers which are usually only 100-100 feet underground.
Some countries being helped are Uganda and Kenya. One way I can help is by helping spread the awareness further more and help fundraise money for the cause. In order to fundraise the dollar I walked around my block asking people I encounter. Of course some people did not believe me about the cause but others decided to believe me and gave me their spare change. When I became aware of the negative effects of lack of water I felt horrible and immediately wanted to know what I can do to make a difference. Some things that come along with lack of clean water are water born illness , parasites and a greater chance of being infected with round worm and whipworm.
I myself have never witnessed lack of water near where I currently live. I was asked questions about what exactly I needed the spare change for and what exactly the cause was. I felt shy to ask people for money but I knew that it was for a good cause. It felt good to know I am helping out and making a dramatic difference in someone's life.
